3 Ways To Get Exposure As An Unsigned SR

Let’s face it, the landscape of college basketball recruiting has changed. It comes as no secret, that most schools are looking toward the transfer portal or JUCO’s for recruiting, leaving many seniors left without offers. Spring provides an opportunity for those seniors to showcase their talents. Here’s three tips to maximize the opportunity.

1) Find College Team Camps To Attend – Despite the changes, the one thing that’s consistent is schools are always looking for players. One of the best way to find them is through the use of their own camps. The minute your high school season ends, you should be looking for college team camps to attend. This will give your student athlete a guaranteed opportunity to play in front of a college coaching staff.

2) Play AAU As An Unsigned SR – The Late Signing Period doesn’t end until May 15th. From the end of your season until that date, unsigned seniors are allowed to play in AAU tournaments. Use this opportunity to gain much needed exposure and perhaps attract that last minute offer.

3) Apply To D1 Schools As A Walk-on – This is a little known secret that many players fail to utilize. You’re called a student athlete for a reason. Make a list of schools that you would like to attend as a student. Then apply to those schools, once you get accepted you are now a student, and the rules prohibiting college coaches from contacting you are waived. Go to the athletic department and ask which coach handles Student Tryouts, provide you athletic resume to that coach, and ask him for the tryout schedule. It may not guarantee you a spot on the team, but it will give you a leg up on the competition.
